F(r)icção de Grito

On March 23rd, at the invitation of my friend and artist @NatLoyola, I produced a series of metal sculptures and also participated with her in the performance “F(r)icção de Grito” at the finissage of the exhibition “The Skin of the Earth” no @coletivoamarelo, Lisbon. F(r)icção de Grito” brings the fusion of metal and dry ice, resulting in a piercing sound that echoes like a lament from the depths of the Earth. This experience evokes carbon dioxide (CO2), symbolized by dry ice solidified at -78°C, while serving as the sonic materialisation of one of the possible sounds of iron.     video – Gabriella Sá Photos – Francisco Bacaro and Patricia Gomide

Area privada de caça

A piece of planet, 2021 Placa de metal, fita de cetim e pregos. 100 x 100 cm A piece of planet, 2021 Placa de metal, fita de cetim e pregos. 100 x 100 cm View – A piece of planet, 2021 Placa de metal, fita de cetim e pregos. 100 x 100 cm What is the total area of planet Earth? How many square meters does it have? How many square meters of the planet are inhabited? How many people can fit within one square meter (before and after the pandemic)? How many people in the world don’t even have one square meter to live in? If we were to divide the total inhabited area by the number of people, would each person be able to have at least a piece of the planet? Curatorial text by Olga Sureda: In “A piece of planet,” a sign with the inscription “Private Hunting Area” – found by the artist in the forests of rural Barcelona – delimits one square meter with a satin ribbon, speaking to the value of land and its ownership. It questions the public/private property dichotomy at a time when its value is imbalanced, taking as reference the assertion of French anarchist Pierre-Joseph Proudhon, “Property is theft.”

This statement-work is made on an 8 meters long rice paper with the sentence “Hay más futuro que pasado” (There is more future than past) fading as it is repeated on the support. In the absence of a moral meaning, the statement can induce ambiguity in the reader. For the anxious and disappointed, it can be perceived as a torment, and for the hopeful as a warm message.   This work was done during the artistic residency in Vic – Barcelona – Spain. And was part of the exhibition fuera(de)forma. shots: Tai Lamas
