Victor Gonçalves (São Paulo, 1989) is a visual artist who has migrated between Switzerland and Portugal since 2017. His transdisciplinary practice focuses on expanded drawing, articulating installations, objects and performance. His research investigates tensions between humans, low-tech and nature, approaching collapse as a critical and poetic gesture, and questioning the instrumentalization of art, as in “In the end everything is a carbon chain” (XXII Bienal de Cerveira, 2022). With a degree in Geography (UNESP, Brazil) and studies in Art History (IEB-USP, Brazil) and Drawing (Ar.Co, Lisbon), he has consolidated a trajectory that questions notions of landscape, time and affections.

He has received support from DGartes (Portuguese Ministry of Culture) for projects such as Paisagem das Horas (2022), Atirantar o som (2023), and Salaris (2024, with Maura Grimaldi and Natalia Loyola). His work has been exhibited at the XXII Bienal de Cerveira (2022), Anonyme Zeichner (Galeria Anke Becker, Berlin, 2022), Nos_ Madrid (2024), and Um lado de dados não abolirá o Desejo (Lisbon, 2024). Solo exhibitions include Atelieraberto – curated by Nino Cais, casavela (São Paulo, 2026), and Por Um Fio – curated by Cristiana Tejo, NowHere (Lisbon, 2021). He has also participated in collective projects (Embedded, Lisbon, 2024; Alcazar, Galeria Alfaia, 2023), performances (The Skin of the Earth, 2024 and À Deriva, 2025), and residencies (casavela, São Paulo, 2026; Mosteiro Zen Morro da Várzea, Brazil, 2026; Nectar, Barcelona, 2021; Grão, Aveiro, 2020). In 2020, he joined the collection of the Cinematheque of the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro with the video performance Aporia, selected for the Dobra Festival. Founder and director of the Atelier B12 Association, Gonçalves also develops exhibition projects, such as the performance Permultuo (2022) and Silencio de Ingrid Lyra Matheus (2025). His work is also part of private collections and was included in the publication Portuguese Emerging Art (2023). He lives and works between Locarno and Lisbon.
